Educational Outcomes

Because of our different emphases and focus, WCA considers standardized only one of many tools to assess a student's learning and development. To comply with Pennsylvania homeschool requirements, our students take a standardized tests in 3rd, 5th, and 8th grade.

Our third graders' 2022 test results

WCA third graders thrived on the CAT (California Achievement Test) in April 2022.

The average math score for students was an equivalent grade level 5.7 (Grade 5, 7 months into the school year. 3rd graders taking this in April, the ninth month of school, would have a base grade equivalent of 3.9). This means our students are on average more than a year ahead in terms of math ability.

The average reading score came out at a 6.7 equivalent grade level, more than two years ahead.

These scores place the average third-grade student at WCA in the top 13% of students (the 87th percentile).

Our fifth graders' 2022 test results

WCA fifth graders also excelled on the CAT (California Achievement Test) in April.

The average math score for students was an equivalent grade level 7.6 (Grade 7, 6 months into the school year. 5th graders taking this in April, the ninth month of school, would have a base grade equivalent of 5.9). This means our students are on average more than a year ahead in terms of math ability.

The average reading score came out at a 8.2 equivalent grade level, more than two years ahead.

These scores place the average fifth grader student at WCA in the top 20% of students (the 79th percentile).

Proven, consistent results

In the three times our third graders have taken the CAT, they have scored on average in the 94th percentile for math and the grade equivalent of at least one year above them. This is all while many of our students have never before taken a standardized, multiple-choice test on a computer and with no in-class preparation or lessons to cover material specifically on the test.
